Building rocket engines for outer space has always been a challenging exercise. In this whitepaper discover how in a joint project, technology leader SLM Solutions and a group of San Diego State University students successfully manufactured a liquid rocket engine which passes important safety tests for the use in space.

SLM Solutions provided guidance on the design for additive manufacturing of the thrust chamber components and reduced the parts from over one hundred to just five. After being printed on the SLM®280 2.0 in the SLM North American applications center, the parts were post-processed by utilizing Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP).
